  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the optional glaze (or frosting):

  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

2. Prepare the cake batter:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Mix in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the sour cream, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.

3. Bake the cake:

  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

4. Prepare the optional glaze:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the milk quantity to achieve your desired consistency.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake.

5. Serve:

  • Once the glaze has set, slice and serve the cake. It pairs wonderfully with a cup of tea or coffee.
